051: Change your Food, Change your Mood, Change your Life | Bel Smith

Follow your passion; it will lead to your purpose

[Oprah Winfrey]

Do you feel under pressure to feed your children healthily when all they want are sweets and chocolate? Do you feel bewildered by food labels that appear to be healthy but you’re not quite sure?

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday you’ll discover about a passion so strong, it became a life changer.

My guest today is SuperMum, Bel Smith.

Bel is a Health and Wellness coach and lives a life on the road with her husband, Israel, ten year old daughter and six year old son. Last year they made the giant leap of selling their home and investing in a big green bus named Kaley. Bel and her family made it their mission to spend two years touring Australia spreading the important message of eating well for a better life.

Bel is the creator of the Mad Food Science™ Programme where she teaches children, parents and teachers how to understand food labelling and make informed choices. She also created the 5 Minute Healthy Lunchbox System™ as a way to help reduce the stress for parents packing lunch boxes.

Having turned to nutrition to treat her husband’s diagnosis of depression, Bel quickly saw the affects the quality of nutrition were having on all members of her family. She learned that what you put in your body has a direct affect on your mood, emotions and overall wellness. Bel knows that knowledge of nutrition is a powerful tool to both mental and physical wellness and wanted to spread her message.

Today Bel shares her family’s incredible journey across the length and breath of Australia. And she encourages you to think, ‘What would Jamie [Oliver] do?’ not only when considering your food choices, but your life choices.

I’m delighted to have Bel on my show today as she’ll teach you how to transform your life through following your passion, standing for what you believe in, and the power of self belief.

  • What triggered Bel to spontaneously quit her corporate job without warning
  • What life on the road is like when you have children in tow
  • Why Bel believes her lifestyle choice has enriched her children’s lives beyond belief
  • The difference between distance learning and homeschooling and how to incorporate it in your travels
  • How to regain confidence in yourself as a mum and be strong in your decision making
  • If in doubt, why you can ask yourself, ‘What would Jamie do?’

 Hope you enjoy todays show!

043: Reclaim You; How to Reignite your Passion, Power and Purpose | Sally Thibault

With experience comes wisdom

[Sally Thibault]

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday we’ll be talking about how to rediscover a new passion, power and purpose in your life to create meaningful success and a purposeful balance in your life.

My guest today is SuperMum, Sally Thibault.

Sally has three adult children, one of whom is autistic, and lives on the Gold Coast of Australia with her husband of 35 years to the day. Sally is a professional Keynote Speaker, the author of two books, and a certified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also a Women’s Success Mentor and facilitates the Reclaim You programs.

With over 35 years experience in the Health and Wellness Industry, Sally has been featured extensively in Australian national and local media and is currently the Health and Wellness Expert on a Queensland national radio programme.

As the mother of adult children, Sally gives us her benefit of hindsight and perspective on raising children, and she shares with us how she overcame many of the obstacles of motherhood.

It wasn’t an easy journey, having three children, one with Aspergers Syndrome, as well as managing her career.

Over the years, Sally has learned about the true meaning of purpose, parenting and living in the present. She believes the patterns of the past hold the solutions to what you want in the future. Today Sally will help us make sense of those patterns in order to follow through with the intentions you have set, and create success in your life as a mum.

I’m so happy to have Sally on my show today. She has so much wisdom to share from a mum who’s been there in the trenches. She’s here to share the strength and positivity she gained from her experiences throughout her mothering years.

032: 5 Practical Tips for Busy Mums to Get More Sleep

Let me sleep, for when I wake I will move mountains

pexels-photo-46100Sleep, elusive sleep

From the last weeks of our first pregnancy, the sleep deficit begins. And so to, a taste of things to come.

For me, that was over seven years ago. And as much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I haven’t had a full eight hours since.

Self inflicted admittedly. I’m not pregnant, don’t have a newborn and my kids sleep like angels.

But oh! That precious golden time once the kids are in bed. The day is done, the jobs are finished (at least for now) and the house is quiet.

ME TIME!!! Yippee

Why would I want to give that up to go to bed?

But how well is the lack of Zzzzzz’s serving me?

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about sleep, how a lack of sleep affects our mothering, and what we can do about it.

This weeks challenge:

My challenge for this week is to consider how much quality sleep you’re getting and what steps you can take to get a little more.
I’m in this challenge right alongside you, because I battle it too. Its difficult I know because that pocket of ‘me’ time is so elusive.
But if you can conquer it, your awake time will be far more productive, and you’ll also notice that you’re better able to move mountains when you’re fully rested. So don’t see sleep as time wasted.

Tell me what you think?

Tell me in the comments. How many hours sleep do you get a night? Is it enough or do you feel tired during the day? How can you claw back a bit more time for sleep?

I’m here to spur you on and help you as much as possible

Hope you enjoy the show.

Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into but hard to get out of

apple-bite-diet-eat-41660

They say old habits die hard.

They’re right.

They do.

But does that mean to say you’re gonna let bad habits get the better of you?

You’re kidding! A strong-minded mama like you?

No way.

But, just the knowledge that replacing bad old habits with shiny fresh new ones will take time and effort, is the essential first mindset tool you need to kill those destructive old habits dead.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about our shared addiction to Jaffa Cakes, and how to kill those naughty bad habits dead.

Laughter is brightest where food is best [Irish Proverb]

1250px x 833px – Mandie and boys

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about managing to eat nutritious food in spite of being rushed off your feet.

Now, I’ll be honest with you, but whenever I hear anything about healthy eating, my eyes start to glaze over. I’m not sure why, because I’m a complete foodie. I love to cook, I love healthy natural ingredients, heck, I even like grocery shopping.

But that whole healthy eating monologue I find, well…. kinda dull.

That was, until I met Mandie Spooner. Mandie is a Nutritional Therapist, living in the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Mandie brings a special sparkle to eating great food, and she doesn’t even mention quinoa, or chickpeas.

You’ll love this show because Mandie teaches us about how we can incorporate more broccoli into our busy life in a fun and informative way.

And the best bit? Mandie even gives you permission to eat CAKE!

  • About the different dieting trends and the confusion that often surrounds them
  • Mandie debunks the myths to help you find an eating style that works best for you and your body
  • We discuss the dreaded sugar and why so many of us, myself included, are addicted to the stuff. But more importantly, Mandie will help us kick the habit
  • Mandie teaches you how to streamline and systemetise your meal planning, so even though you’re busy, you don’t have to compromise on eating well
  • We discuss making healthy choices on the go, so if you get held up and it’s dinner time, you don’t always have to resort to taking the kids to McDonalds
